This project was part of the Designing for Services course in the MFA program at Aalto University, conducted in collaboration with the City of Espoo.
Working with a multidisciplinary team of four other students, we explored how Business Espoo’s Competence Development Package could better support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in a more relevant and impactful way.
The Competence Development Package is one of six core services provided by the Business Espoo network, a public-sector collaboration among seven organizations focused on entrepreneurship, business growth, and employment. While the package offers a range of training programs to help SMEs stay competitive, it has been underutilized.
To identify improvement opportunities, we conducted desktop research, interviews with SME representatives and internal stakeholders, and facilitated a co-creation workshop within the Business Espoo network.
We proposed a lifecycle-based structure for the Competence Development Package, with each stage highlighting the value it addresses and specific service touchpoints to enhance the service delivery experience. The outcome provides a strategic foundation for Business Espoo to continue developing the service in a more SME-centric manner.
